Questions
- How do you add VAT to a price?
- Gross = Net × (1 + VAT rate ÷ 100). For example, £100 net at 20% VAT becomes £120 gross, with £20 as the VAT amount.
- How do you remove VAT from a price that already includes it?
- Net = Gross ÷ (1 + VAT rate ÷ 100). It's not simply gross minus 20% — dividing (not subtracting a flat percentage) is what correctly reverses the VAT that was added.
- What VAT rate should I use?
- VAT rates vary by country and sometimes by product category — the UK standard rate is 20%, most EU countries range from 17% to 27%. Check your local tax authority for the exact rate that applies to you.
- Is my pricing data sent anywhere?
- No. All calculations run locally in your browser with JavaScript — nothing is transmitted or stored.
