Questions
- Is this a real PDF with selectable text, or an image of my document?
- It's real text. The converter reads your DOCX's structure (headings, paragraphs, bold/italic, lists) and draws actual PDF text objects with pdf-lib, measuring and wrapping each line itself. You can select, search, and copy text from the output — it isn't a rasterized screenshot of your document.
- Will my document's exact layout, fonts, and images carry over?
- Partly. This is a text-reflow converter, not a layout clone, so it's still built around text-heavy documents: headings, paragraphs, bold/italic emphasis, and bulleted or numbered lists all convert cleanly. Images are now embedded too — each one is placed as its own block where it appears in the document, scaled to fit the page. Tables, multi-column layouts, custom fonts, and precise page positioning are not carried over — mammoth.js (the library used to read the .docx) will skip tables, and a small number of unusual image formats may be skipped if the browser can't decode them.
- Is my document uploaded anywhere?
- No. The .docx file is read and converted entirely client-side, using mammoth.js to parse it and pdf-lib to build the PDF — both run as JavaScript in your browser tab. The file never touches a server.
- Does this work with old .doc files?
- No, only the modern .docx format (Word 2007 and later) is supported. If you have an older .doc file, open and re-save it as .docx in Word or Google Docs first.
