Questions
- How is reading time calculated?
- Reading time uses an average reading speed of 225 words per minute, and speaking time uses 130 words per minute — both are common estimates used by publishers and presenters. Your actual pace may vary with content difficulty.
- How are sentences and paragraphs counted?
- Sentences are counted by splitting the text on runs of . ! or ? characters and counting the non-empty pieces. Paragraphs are counted by splitting on blank lines, so a paragraph is any block of text separated from others by an empty line.
- What counts as the "most common word"?
- The tool lowercases every word and counts frequency, ignoring a small list of very common filler words like "the", "a", and "is" so the result is more meaningful for spotting repeated or overused terms.
- Is my text uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything runs locally in your browser with JavaScript — your text is never sent to a server, which also means it works offline once the page has loaded.
